Set in a wild, magic-infused country based on Tsarist Russia, WIND OVER BONE is the haunting fantasy prequel to ALOREN. Four years ago Sarid's magic drove a nobleman mad. It was an unfortunate mischance, a child's mistake, nothing Sarid need worry about now. Or so she believes, until the madman's little brother falls in love with her. A quarter faerie, Sarid knows she ought to stay far, far away from Rischa Eliav, but he wins her over in a matter of weeks. He’s persistent, charming, and has no idea who she is. She's furious with herself, terrified he'll find out about her depraved family, or worse, that she caused his brother's madness. When she inadvertently uses her magic to rescue Savvel, Rischa’s brother, from one of his hallucinations, Rischa, thrilled, asks her to help cure him. She has no choice but to try; Savvel suspects who drove him mad, and has threatened to tell everyone if she refuses. Curing mercurial Savvel seems an impossible task, made even more impossible when Sarid’s sister, Yelse, turns up in disguise, seeking vengeance for old wrongs. Wrongs done their family by Rischa and Savvel's royal kin. Rischa is taken in by Yelse’s deceptive charms, and most people begin blaming Sarid for her sister’s handiwork: the blights and deaths plaguing the countryside. Oddly enough it's Savvel who comes to believe Sarid, Savvel who proves to be an invaluable ally. But nobody believes a madman.
