When young female reporter, Helen Bellamy is found murdered and dumped in the Essex countryside with Riley Gavins name on her, Riley is called in to identify her. She immediately recognises the woman as a previous lover of her friend and colleague, ex-Royal Military policeman, Frank Palmer.Palmer, now a PI, knows of only one way to deal with it: find the killers.Meanwhile, Riley receives an attractive job offer writing a profile of controversial London businessman, 'Kim' Al-Bashir, a front-runner bidding for control of vast international telecomms licences against shadowy Russians with Mafiya connections. It becomes clear that anything she writes about Bashir wil be distorted and used to discredit him, and that the murdered Bellamy has already been down this route. Realising they are on a parallel course, Riley and Frank join forces to find out just who they are up against... and to prevent Riley ending up with the same fate as Hellen Bellamy.
