Description
Private Investigator Jordan Lacy is back at it again… In the sleepy town of Latching on the south east coast of England, PI Jordan Lacy takes on cases the police are too busy to deal with. Using her knick-knack shop – First Class Junk – as a front, Jordan also uses it to supplement her income. It might not be glamorous work but it keeps her afloat. Her latest string of cases aren’t that glamorous either. The first was brought to Jordan’s attention from her old friend Jack, owner of the Latching pier arcade. Mrs Daphne Gregson was robbed in the night. Or more accurately, her precious pets were dognapped. A breeder of purebred Chihuahuas, Mrs Gregson is beside herself at losing her dogs – especially a show-puppy named Angel. There are no clues to who might have done it but Mrs Gregson is sure of the motive: purebred puppies are sure to fetch highly on the black market. With the police being of little help, it’s up to Jordan to find them. At the same time, according to her friend and secret love of her life, DI James, the police are busy with a huge car scam operation in Latching. Apparently, a couple of scammers are pretending to get into accidents for the insurance claim. At least, James was sweet enough to warn Jordan about them. Meanwhile, her second case is also theft – serial theft in fact. The anglers out on Latching pier have noticed that their fishing rods are going missing. One minute there, the next gone. Determined to catch what’s probably a local lad having a laugh, Jordan tags along with Dick Mann, recently moved to Latchings. But then, when she’s not looking, Dick Mann goes missing. His mates including local angler, Arnie Rudge, say he must have gone off to the pub. Jordan has a nasty feeling though and no matter where she looks, he’s no where to be seen. Soon, her feeling is proved right. DI James calls her to say they’ve found the body of Dick Mann, hanging upside in a bell tower. Could it have been suicide or murder? And, as Jordan delves deeper into her other cases, it seems they’re more closely linked than she ever thought… The sixth instalment of the Jordan Lacy series, Ring and Die is another thrilling and suspenseful mystery. Praise for the Jordan Lacy series “An absolute treat of a novel… (the) story is clever and well-constructed, but it’s Lacey herself who makes the novel so special; she is truly a delightful creation.” -Booklist Starred Review Stella Whitelaw is a professional writer and journalist, with over 55 novels published as well as over 325 short stories in national women's magazines.
