He is upset by the loss of a well-paying job. One that doesn't require many hours, and those which it does, don't interfere with his busiest times at the shop. In Mr. Holmes' mind it may be much more than that, the beginnings of a daring bank robbery. Using minute details of the small mystery, he is able to solve the larger one. "Depend upon it," said Holmes to Watson in "A Case of Identity." "There is nothing so unnatural as the commonplace."
